“These people are not representative of our country’s military,” said General Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The Pentagon is investigating veterans and members of the military who were in the crowd during the Capitol building breach on January 6 to combat and identify “white supremacy” and “far-right extremism.” This comes as over 25 thousand troops have been deployed in DC to provide security for the inauguration of Joe Biden due to alleged “external security threats.”
So far, the FBI has identified six people with “military links” throughout the early stages of their investigation into the events that took place at the US Capitol on January 6, according to the New York Times.
“These people are not representative of our country’s military,” said General Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. “There was some indication that an unknown number of veterans associated with the insurrection.”
Former U.S. Marine Donovan Crowl and Army veteran Jessica Watkins were arrested after authorities discovered photos of the individuals dressed in combat gear and claiming that they breached the Capitol on social media. Captain Emily Rainey, who transported 100 Americans to Washington DC for the protest, is also being investigated by the Army for any connections to the event.

Federal officials are now “vetting” thousands of National Guard members, apparently for pro-Trump sentiments, in preparation for the inauguration of Joe Biden. Among the force of over 25 thousand, servicemen who will be near Biden will have to undergo additional background checks. The Defense Department will also monitor social media accounts for indicative posts from service members.
General Milley and the rest of the Joint Chiefs of Staff sent a letter to all military personnel reminding them to be loyal to Joe Biden once he is sworn into office on January 20.
Furthermore, the Inspector General of the Defense Department announced that they will be investigating Pentagon policies “to determine the extent to which the DoD and the Military Services have implemented policy and procedures that prohibit active advocacy and active participation related to supremacist, extremist, or criminal gang doctrine, ideology, or causes” by active duty military members.
“This needs to be rooted out of our military,” said Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL).
The FBI opened over 140 criminal investigations into current and former military members last year, with over 60 of those cases being related to domestic terrorism. The FBI says that one quarter of those investigations were associated with white nationalism, with a “small number” being motivated by anti-fascist or anti-abortion views.
“We in the Department of Defense are doing everything we can to eliminate extremism,” said the Pentagon director for defense intelligence Gary Reid.

Big tech censorship strikes conservatives again. This time the target is One America News Network which has been suspended for one week and been demonetized by YouTube for allegedly posting a video promoting a cure for the COVID-19 China coronavirus.
YouTube has barred One America News Network from posting new videos for a week and stripped it of its ability to make money off existing content after the Trump-friendly channel uploaded a video promoting a phony cure for COVID-19, YouTube spokesperson Ivy Choi tells Axios.
Why it matters: YouTube has been criticized for allowing OANN to spread misinformation using its platform, particularly around coronavirus and the election. This marks the Google-owned service’s first crackdown against OANN.
“After careful review, we removed a video from OANN and issued a strike on the channel for violating our Covid-19 misinformation policy, which prohibits content claiming there’s a guaranteed cure,” Ivy Choi, a YouTube spokesperson, told CNN in a statement.
“Additionally, due to repeated violations of our Covid-19 misinformation policy and other channel monetization policies, we’ve suspended the channel from the YouTube Partner Program and as a result, its monetization on YouTube,” Choi added.
CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan noted that OANN is carried by several cable companies, “OANN, which has become a hub of conspiracy theories undermining the integrity of the election, is also carried by major cable operators, including DirecTV, which is owned by CNN’s parent company AT&T.”

Look for a stronger effort by the censorious left and media to further deplatform One America News Network.
UPDATE: The ADL says YouTube’s actions against OANN is “insufficient”, “While it is commendable that YouTube took action here, it’s unclear why this is the channel’s first strike. OANN has been involved in spreading electoral misinformation since at least early Nov. & this limited ban on posting new content is insufficient.”

Republican criticism of Facebook is that the social network suppresses conservative speech, though the company has long rejected such allegations. But a new report, via NYPost, reveals at least half a dozen “Chinese nationals” are working with the social media company to develop complex algorithms and neural networks for censoring newsfeeds.
Lately, Republicans have been infuriated by Facebook and Twitter for their limitations, or in some cases, the complete banning of a NYPost article last week about Hunter Biden, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s son.
“You can see [their] power in real-time with this attempt to censor, to throttle down the distribution of this Post story,” said Sen. Josh Hawley, a Missouri Republican, at a WSJ Tech Live Conference on Monday. “When you have a monopoly on Facebook that is attempting to stop the distribution of the news, we have a problem, and it’s not just with the New York Post.”
Facebook is leading the charge in censorship, recruiting “Chinese nationals” to work on “censorship” technology, according to a former Facebook employee who recently spoke with the NYPost. “So at some point, they [Facebook bosses] thought, ‘Hey, we’re going to get them H-1B visas so they can do this work.'”
The ex-insider shared some information about the Facebook team, called the “Hate-Speech Engineering” group. The team comprises of at least half a dozen Chinese nationals and works out of Facebook’s offices in Seattle. Many of these Ph.D.s work on complex machine learning algorithms that develop newsfeeds.
The ex-insider said the team teaches algorithms to push specific content to the top of a newsfeed while other content gets shifted “dead-last.”
As explained by the insider, here’s how censorship works: The machine-learning algorithm and neural networks don’t ban specific content; they just rerank the content on the newsfeed. It’s one of the “most sophisticated censorship in human history,” noted NYPost.
“What they don’t do is ban a specific pro-Trump hashtag,” said ex-insider. Instead, “content that is a little too conservative, they will down-rank. You can’t tell it’s censored.”
What is troubling, is how foreign nationals, ones from China, are working on Facebook’s social media censorship team that can directly impact how tens of millions of Americans think. For instance, if the algorithms were instructed to push pro-Trump stories down the feed while pushing up pro-Biden stories, that could quickly impact political thought for many, or even change the outcome of an election if some were undecided.
According to NYPost, the Hate-Speech Engineering team includes one research scientist who earned his master’s degree in computer engineering from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing.
NYPost reached out to Facebook about the matter; here’s what the social media’s spokesperson had to say:
“We are a stronger company because our employees come from all over the world. Our standards and policies are public, including about our third-party fact-checking program, and designed to apply equally to content across the political spectrum. With over 35,000 people working on safety and security issues at Facebook, the insinuation that these employees have an outsized influence on our broader policies or technology is absurd.”
When it comes to the censorship of the Hunter Biden emails, another former Facebook insider told NYPost that Facebook is “almost an arm of the Democratic Party — an arm of the far-left wing of the Democratic Party.”

Facebook announced on Sunday that it would comply with a Brazilian Supreme Court order to remove 12 accounts belonging to supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro.
The court claimed that the accounts were guilty of “fake news” and forced the American company to delete them. In a company statement, Facebook said it would comply with the order to avoid risking criminal liability for employees in Brazil, but called the measure “extreme” and a “threat to freedom of expression” outside of Brazil.
The statement read:
Facebook complied with the order of blocking these accounts in Brazil by restricting the ability for the target Pages and Profiles to be seen from IP locations in Brazil. People from IP locations in Brazil were not capable of seeing these Pages and Profiles even if the targets had changed their IP location.
This new legal order is extreme, posing a threat to freedom of expression outside of Brazil’s jurisdiction and conflicting with laws and jurisdictions worldwide. Given the threat of criminal liability to a local employee, at this point we see no other alternative than complying with the decision by blocking the accounts globally, while we appeal to the Supreme Court.
Last Friday, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes also ordered Facebook to pay a 1.92-million-real ($367,000) fine for “non-compliance” with the initial order, adding that it would face additional daily fines of 100,000 reais ($19,000) if it did not remove the accounts worldwide.
De Moraes has become an unpopular figure among Bolsonaro supporters, many of whom accuse him of trying to usurp power from Bolsonaro. In May, the 51-year-old ordered raids against 29 comedians, YouTubers, and other pro-Bolsonaro journalists as part of a supposed crackdown on “fake news.”
Since Bolsonaro’s election in 2018, Facebook has repeatedly targeted him and his followers for censorship. Even before his victory, the network blacklisted accounts and pages described as his “main network of support” for supposedly violating the website’s rules related to spam.

On Wednesday Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Google’s Sundar Pichai and Apple’s Tim Cook testified before Congress in the House Judiciary subcommittee on antitrust.
Since 2016 and the election of Donald Trump the tech giants have been censoring and banning conservative voices online. Of course, the CEOs dismissed allegations that they are targeting and censoring conservative users despite ALL of the evidence to the contrary.
“If Congress doesn’t bring fairness to Big Tech, which they should have done years ago, I will do it myself with Executive Orders,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “In Washington, it has been ALL TALK and NO ACTION for years, and the people of our Country are sick and tired of it!”
On Wednesday afternoon the Trump White House published their executive order on online censorship. The EO prevents social media giants from altering or editorializing free speech.
The executive order also demands the social media giants provide transparency requirements for their moderation practices!
BREAKING: President Trump directs FCC to implement Executive Order Preventing Online Censorship to limit Section 230 https://t.co/u8VTIVtWXZ
On Monday, the Department of Commerce, as directed by President Donald J. Trump’s Executive Order on Preventing Online Censorship, filed a petition to clarify the scope of Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act. The petition requests that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) clarify that Section 230 does not permit social media companies that alter or editorialize users’ speech to escape civil liability. The petition also requests that the FCC clarify when an online platform curates content in “good faith,” and requests transparency requirements on their moderation practices, similar to requirements imposed on broadband service providers under Title I of the Communications Act. President Trump will continue to fight back against unfair, un-American, and politically biased censorship of Americans online.
The executive order calls for social media companies to be stripped of their “liability shield” if they engage in censorship of political content. Trump’s order came two days after Twitter decided to issue an extremely biased “fact-check” on two of the president’s tweets, supporting vote-by-mail practices that are at the center of a lawsuit between the California Republican Party and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.). Trump has condemned the “fact-check” as an attack on free speech.
“Today, I am signing an Executive Order to protect and uphold the free speech and rights of the American people.” pic.twitter.com/agTIJ2KR6C
The president also directed Attorney General William Barr to work with the states “to enforce their own laws against such deceptive business practices.” Echoing other critics of Big Tech, Trump said, “What they’re doing is tantamount to monopoly, you could say. It’s tantamount to taking over the airwaves.”
Without restraining Big Tech censorship, “we’re not going to have a democracy, we’re not going to have anything to do with a republic,” the president warned. He also directed the administration to make sure that “taxpayer dollars are not going to any social media company that represses free speech.” “As president, I will not allow the American people to be bullied by these giant corporations,” Trump added. He teased further legislation on the issue. “I’ve been called by Democrats that want to do this.”
Indeed, in order to enact a new policy that has any real teeth, the president would likely have to work with Congress to amend Section 230. While the administration can issue new regulations to build on the enforcement of laws, the president cannot unilaterally alter the law. However, it is arguable that actions like Twitter’s “fact-check” already violate the stipulations of Section 230, as the president claimed.
In May, President Trump signed an executive order to check social media companies for censoring conservatives online. He said:
They’ve had unchecked power to censor, restrict, edit, shape, hide, alter virtually any form of communication between private citizens and large public audiences. There’s no precedent in American history for so small a number of corporations to control so large a sphere of human interaction.
